In 1985, John Keene began consulting with a machinery manufacturer that was interested in developing a reliable, inexpensive automatic splicer for the narrow-web newspaper press market. John’s expertise as a design engineer and director of development for two splicer manufacturers in northern Illinois made him the perfect candidate for this endeavor. Along with his wife and co-founder Terry Keene, John founded what is now Keene Technology, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of automatic splicers, turret rewinders, and other web handling equipment. From our initial offering to the newspaper market, we have expanded to serve MANY every web-fed industry: tag and label, packaging, converting, business forms, envelope, folding carton, and more.
As the industry of web-fed production has expanded, so too has KTI. We currently have in excess of 3,000 machines operating in 24 countries. In response to our expanding customer base, we have diversified our product line to include infeeds, unwind and rewind stands, butt splicers, and multi- spindle and slitter rewinds. KTI has experienced tremendous growth and customer loyalty over the years through solution engineered equipment that meets the individual needs of every customer and transcends traditional industry expectations
Expansion of our customer base and product line has required us to upgrade our facility several times. Most recently was the addition of a 22,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art machine shop to work in conjunction with our 65,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. This gives us the ability to dictate every aspect of the building process. The result is a facility that is able to adjust to the demands of the industry quickly and efficiently.
A rugged, solid-steel frame is the backbone of our equipment; we then incorporate readily available off- the-shelf components. This gives us a solid foundation from which to produce cutting edge equipment while maintaining a cost effective price tag. Although our products and services have expanded, we are still dedicated to the concept that got us where we are today, reliability, affordability, and a straightforward approach to doing business.
KTI’s steady growth over the past twenty five years is a testament to our equipment’s ability to maximize the production of virtually any web-fed process line. As worldwide competition expands, printers and converters will have to take advantage of every opportunity to maximize production and reduce waste. That opportunity is efficient web handling equipment from KTI.
In February 2014, KTI was purchased by Quantum Design Inc of Loves Park, IL. Under the leadership of the new President, Danny Pearse, and Vice President, Dave Culvey, KTI is already in full development of improvements for the KTI product lines and company procedures to better serve our customers.
