The Owens Valley is an arid valley in the Eastern Sierra of southeastern California in the United States. The Owens River flows through the 75-mile long valley bounded by the Inyo Mountains on the east, the Coso Range on the southeast, and the Sierra Nevada Range on the west. Mount Whitney rises majestically over 14,000 feet with the floor of the Owens Valley resting at 4,000 feet in elevation making the the valley one of the deepest valleys in the United States. The bed of Owens Lake, now a dry alkali flat, sits on the southern end of the valley. One-third of the water used by the City of Los Angeles comes from the Owens Valley through the Los Angeles Aqueduct.

The Owens Valley Indian Water Commission is committed to protecting the waters of the Owens Valley and works with the support of the three member tribes to carry out the mission of protecting the precious water that sustains all life.
