In 1956 Joseph Gerard and his wife Margaret purchased from William Lott a small liquor store on Bridge Avenue in Point Pleasant at the foot of the Lovelandtown Bridge. Mr. Gerard who owned the Blue Front Market in Seaside Park bought the store as an investment and future business venture for his son and son-in-law who were both recently discharged from the armed service. At the time of the purchase a corporation was registered as "Gerard's Liquor Store" with the members being Joseph Gerard, Margaret Gerard, Dolores Stephens and Joseph A. Gerard. In 1986 Joseph E. Stephens son of Dolores Stephens and Grandson of Joseph Gerard bought the store after the death of his father Ralph and his uncle Joe. His Grandfather Joseph Gerard became semi-retired and in 1998 he died. Gerard's continues to be a quality, family-run operation with a great full-service staff and an unbelievable selection of wine and spirits'.
