FOODIE FRIDAY!! Asian Quinoa Slaw! Ingredients: For the salad: 6 cups Red or Green Cabbage (1 lb shredded) 1 cup Quinoa (cooked) 1 cup Carrots or 1/4 lb. (shredded) 1/4 cup fresh Cilantro (chopped) 1/3 cup Cashews (chopped, toasted) 1 Tbsp Black Sesame Seeds (toasted) 2 Green Onions (sliced, keep green and white separated) For the Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette: 1/4 cup Rice Vinegar 1 tsp fresh Ginger (finely grated) 1 clove Garlic (finely grated) 1 Tbsp Agave Nectar pinch of Salt and Pepper 1/4 cup Olive Oil 2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil Instructions: For the salad: In a large mixing bowl, combine CABBAGE, cooked QUINOA, CARROTS, CILANTRO, CASHEWS, SESAME SEEDS, and GREEN ONIONS (whites); cover and refrigerate until ready to dress with vinaigrette. For the Sesame Ginger Vinaigrette: In a mixing bowl or glass, whisk together RICE VINEGAR, GINGER, GARLIC, AGAVE, SALT, and PEPPER. Slowly drizzle in the OLIVE OIL and SESAME OIL, continually whisking until well-blended and creamy. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use; garnish with GREEN ONION (green part).

Really enjoyed meeting the ladies who attended our workshop tonight on Living your life with less stress at Airdrie Chiropractors- Access Chiropractic and Wellness. Mindful eating is a great way to teach yourself to be mindful, by taking your first bite of food as a mindful bite you are giving your mind an opportunity to be in tune with how you are feeling in your mind, body and spirit. This is a skill that will help you be mindful in other times of the day. Here is a short video clip on one of the exercises we did. If you want to give it a try get a small bite of food ready, we had hershey's kisses.
We recorded this video tonight at a Stress Reduction Technique class at Access Chiropractic and Wellness. Everyone was given a Hersey's Kiss before we started.

We all talk about stress, but we are not always clear about what it is. This is because stress comes from both the good and the bad things that happen to us. If we did not feel any stress, we would not be alive! Stress becomes a problem when we are not sure how to handle an event or a situation. Then worry sets in, and we feel “stressed.” Stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you a jump on managing them. Stress that’s left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. Cortisol has been shown to damage and kill cells in the hippocampus (the brain area responsible for your episodic memory) and there is robust evidence that chronic stress causes premature brain aging. Without cortisol you would die – but too much of it is not a good thing. In this free class we will discuss the stress cycle and show you stress reduction techniques that you will easily be able to use in your daily life.
