If you are looking for a “zoo experience” that you can just enjoy or take home with you, stop by Petopia, the new exotic pet store in Deridder, LA.

Shane and Melissa Savoie are the owners of PeTopia, which is much more than a traditional pet shop. The store offers “common” animals but emphasizes their wide selection unique and exotic animals. Come in and browse, you’ll experience the animals interacting with each other, the shop owners and the customers. When we say  “Everything Pets” we mean it. In addition to Common and Exotic pets, they offer on-site and mobile pet grooming services. The shop is open Monday thru Friday 9 to 6 and Saturday 10 to 4. We take walk-ins for Grooming Monday thru Friday 8 to 4 and Saturday by appointment.

The reptile room hosts exotic species such as bearded dragons and iguanas. One of the rarer species is the Argentine tegu; a type of lizard that is a spikey-tailed, vegetarian  and looks like a combination between a rock formation and a dinosaur. In addition to reptiles we have the cutest fuzzy animals and mammals such as African soft fur and hairless rats, bunnies, guinea pigs, and sugar gliders. We also have small birds including cockatiels and parakeets and more. There are also freshwater aquatic pets for sale.

One notably famous creature who resides at PeTopia is a 13-foot Burmese python who has appeared in the anthology television series, American Horror Story: Freak Show. She is not for sale.

Shane and Melissa are clearly well-versed and deeply knowledgeable about the species they carry at their store. “We love to come to work,” said Shane. Animals are our passion. The Savoie’s work with Foster Mama Kitty, a cat rescue non-profit, to help find homes for rescue cats.
