As a wrap-up to their Honors Physics class, a few of our Alverno Heights Academy seniors created a brief documentary based on Nathalia Holt's book Rise of the Rocket Girls. The video shows the girls "living" as some of the women who were employed by NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and California Institute of Technology - Caltech during the 1940s and on and sharing the challenges and obstacles they overcome. Additionally, the film includes excerpts from Susan Finley's visit to campus. Finley, who has worked at JPL since 1958, is the longest serving woman at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They say all good things must come to an end and unfortunately, that is the case for our 2016-2017 Varsity Softball Season. The Alverno Heights Academy Jaguars played a hard fought game yesterday against West Torrance High School that ended with a 3-1 win for the Warriors. While the game didn't have the outcome we wanted, the girls played incredibly hard and we could not be more proud of their title as "UNDEFEATED CHAMPIONS OF THE HORIZON LEAGUE!" Congratulations on an amazing season! The team had a 1-1 tie going into the fifth inning but we just missed scoring 2 runs in the fifth. West Torrance scored twice in the sixth inning for their final score. #AlvernoHeightsAcademy #AlvernoHeights60 #AlvernoAthletics #AlvernoSoftball #HorizonLeagueChampions

Did you know that there are three things an artist needs in order to create art? Well, the first two, a focus point and an artist, are obvious but have you ever stopped to consider what the third element might be? In "Visual Art is a Solitary Practice," Mr. Tim Lewis P'19, Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair shares how his four AP Studio Art students have learned this lesson over the last year culminating with their AP Studio Art Show at the Creative Arts Group in Sierra Madre. Read the blog below to find out just what that third thing may be... #AlvernoHeightsAcademy #AlvernoHeights60 #AlvernoArts #AlvernoBlogs
