WPAHS began as a small group researching family history, meeting in members' homes. In 2003 the West Point Town Board established the West Point Area Historical Commission to act as a board of directors for the West Point Area Historical Society.
The town celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2010 with a special program at the annual town meeting.
