The Congregation of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd "fused" with the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God on January 19, 2015.
On that day, a new Province was created, Hospitaller Order of St. John of God-Province of the Good Shepherd in North America. The Province combines the existing North American ministries of the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd with the Hospitaller Order's existing ministries in Montreal and New Jersey.
For the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd, the fusion was a return to our roots. Our founder, Brother Mathias Barrett, was originally a Hospitaller Brother of St. John of God before founding the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1950. The fusion of our missions will strengthen two Roman Catholic communities that have shared a synergistic relationship since 1951.
The fusion will not affect the programs and services offered, nor will the name of our ministry organizations change. In fact, the diversity of services and our ways of life will complement a greater level of care for those who come to us for support and assistance. It's good news for the people who rely on our programs and services on a daily basis, as well as for our donors and stakeholders.
All the Brothers throughout the world look forward to our new relationship and the many benefits it brings to the people who need us most.
