Travis County ESD #6 - Lake Travis Fire Rescue - provides emergency services for an area in western Travis County of over 104 square miles. The very hills and waterways that make this one of the most beautiful areas in state create unique challenges for emergency support. The only north south corridor in the district, RR620 is flanked by Lake Travis to the west and Lake Austin to the east. Hwy 71 and RR 2222 wind their ways amougst the hills and are the two southeast/northwest thoroughfares at opposite ends of the district.
Our District is guided by five appointed Fire Commissioners, who set policy and general direction for us. The state of Texas sets the legislative rules governing the funding of all Emergency Service Districts.
The current funding model was designed to support rural fire fighting efforts with volunteers. The growth within ESD #6 area has created the need for full time fire, medical, and rescue teams. Budgets have been stretched in the attempt to cover the growing demands of adding facilities, fire fighting equipment and trained fire fighting and emergency medical technicians. Most urban fire departments are funded by a 40 cent tax rate on every $1,000 of property value. LTFR is funded at a 10 cents, roughly one fourth of other city urban and suburban areas.
Lake Travis Fire Rescue is focused on providing quality emergency services to the communities we serve.
