Stemilt Growers is a family-owned tree fruit growing, packing and shipping company based in Wenatchee, WA. Along with producing fresh apples, pears and summer fruits, Stemilt is the nation's leading shipper of sweet cherries and one of the largest suppliers of organic tree fruits.
Stemilt has a rich farming heritage centered on the visionary members of the Mathison family. It all began in 1893 when the first generation homesteaded 160 acres atop Stemilt Hill near Wenatchee. Recognizing the area's volcanic-rich soil and plentiful water supply, the family planted its first 10 acres of apples, pears and cherries in 1914.
By 1950, Tom Mathison had taken the lead in the family business. After a few challenging years in the marketplace, Tom decided to change his go-to-market strategies in order to have more control over the end-quality of his fruit. In 1960, Tom built his first packing facility on Stemilt Hill. By 1964, Tom had started packing for other local growers and formally incorporated Stemilt.
Today, Stemilt is still solely owned by the Mathison family. Tom's grandson, West Mathison, serves as company president. Though much has changed since Tom first founded Stemilt, delivering high-quality products in a manner that protects the environment remains our top priority.
