In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus spoke the words of the Hebrew prophet Isaiah in describing his ministry, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" (NRSV).
We believe that the church, a group of anointed individuals serving as the vanguard of the kingdom coming to earth, should be about business similar to Jesus: bringing good news to the poor, freeing the captives, helping the blind see, speaking up for the oppressed, and proclaiming the kingdom of God.
