IT'S FISHMAS EVE!!! So, let's talk about a few things, shall we? We have a warm up coming, the rivers are already running hard. They are only going to get deeper, faster, and muddied. the Truckee is bouncing between 5,200 and 5,700 cfs., The West Walker through the canyon, along 395 has been stocked, and it's running around 600 cfs. The East Carson, above Hangman's Bridge, along 89 and 4 is running around 1,600 cfs, and was stocked. The West Carson, running game around 520 cfs was also stocked. East Walker, CA side, is high with 421 cfs, but is fishing well, hwy 182 has reopened, after a landslide, and the back route to hwy 338/Wellington is a beautiful drive. Don't try and cross the river., use streamers, and the biggest ugliest beastie fly you have. Twin Lakes, Bridgeport Res., Indian Creek you can get to. Virginia Lakes.. not this weekend..too much snow that they are trying get to plow out. Sonora pass, Monitor Pass and Tioga Pass are still all closed. Spooner Lake still has ice on it. Frenchmans' has open water and is full Davis, has some open water, but u have to snow shoe in. Red lake is iced over. Hey, we all asked for a good Winter, we got it. On another note, It was an interesting week at the shop. Worked on a downrigger rod, that the owner wanted 11" taken off the bottom, hopefully, tomorrow it will be getting its resin and will go catch a lot more fish! Then, I guess being woodcarving, tinkering with skin mounts years ago, a repair of a past East carson NV, state record brown came in to get some spa treatment , and a few repairs on its' fins. Then, the Annual arrival of: Fishing the California Alps arrived! Next Thursday -through the 9th (or so), we'd like you to come in and say some kind words to Tom Peterson, who will be watching the shop for us, while we take a small vacation ( first in 2 years). Tom is an expert at old rock and roll, movies, weird television shows, and we are honored that he has listened well, and gained an abundance fly fishing information by hanging at the shop, traveled and fished his guts out throughout the Western US (jealous ). We hope everyone has a wonderful Opening weekend, stay safe, and be aware of the water and it's very cold temperatures.

~#FISHMAS2017 Outlook~ Are you one of the many headed to the Eastern Sierra for Fishmas next weekend? Currently it looks like conditions will be favorable with above normal temperatures and no precipitation or major wind events likely. Northeast breezes are possible for Saturday, with lighter winds anticipated Sunday. Keep in mind that hazards still exist from the very wet winter we had. Warmer temperatures will increase snowmelt causing creeks and streams to run high and fast with very cold water. Extreme caution should be used crossing any creeks or streams this time of year, or even better avoid crossing if you can. In addition, watch out for soft snow which could be hiding holes or other obstructions. Mono County Tourism - California's Eastern Sierra Mono County Sheriff's Office CHP - Bishop
