Stanford Blood Center was created within the Department of Pathology at Stanford University School of Medicine in 1978. The Blood Center was created to meet the increasingly large and complex transfusion needs of Stanford Hospital and Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and to perform research and teaching.
We have three center locations (Campbell, Menlo Park, Mountain View), and hold hundreds of mobile blood drives each year from South San Francisco to Gilroy.
Stanford Blood Center encourages donors of all backgrounds to donate; the initial qualifications are simply to be at least 17 years old, weigh over 110 pounds, and be in good health.
