Andrew Thomas Architect pllc was founded to provide excellence in architectural design. The firm focuses on fitting the building to meet the needs of our clients. Our work seeks to embrace its environment. It responds to its users, its context of place and it seeks to minimize the impact of its own footprint. Integral to our work is the vernacular context, the landscape and urban surrounds, the measured use of material and energy resources and indoor environmental quality. Our best hope is to express the liveliness of those who inhabit our spaces.
Our work, spanning from institutional to single family residential projects, has targeted that point which both fulfills the needs of our clients and promotes stewardship of the larger environment. Our recent Peabody School Addition project has received the first LEED-NC (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification in the Charlottesville area. The project focuses on integrating the school’s needs with water use savings and through energy savings in lighting controls and day lighting. A significant amount of the materials used in the project are recycled, and most of the lumber used is Forest Stewardship Council certified. Materials and finishes used were all chosen to meet strict indoor air quality requirements. With that same focus our planned unit development project of single family homes at 1012 Druid Avenue in Charlottesville has received the first Health House Certification in the state of Virginia, from the American Lung Association. These homes are also Energy Star Rated and Earth Craft certified.
