"The overall tenor of this book — of course, never composed as a coherent narrative, and yet somehow taking the shape of one in retrospect — is one of joy, brio, excitement, and ambition. The reader will experience not only the passions of youth but also the dizzying atmosphere of the era."
Revelations and riches in a memoir from a pioneer of pulp fiction and a new collection of journals from an SF icon. Review by Paul Di Filippo.

Join us Monday August 07, 2017 at 7:00 PM as we welcome Emmy Award-winning actor Bryan Cranston to our Union Square location in New York City! We'll be celebrating the paperback release of Bryan's highly original and entertaining memoir A LIFE IN PARTS (Scribner Books), in which the renowned artist examines his own history through the personas of the characters he has portrayed. "Bryan Cranston began his acting career at the age of seven, when his father, a struggling actor and sometime director, cast him in a commercial for United Way. By fifth grade he was starring in the school play, spending hours at the local movie theater, and re-enacting favorite scenes with his brother in their living room. Cranston seemed destined to be an actor. But then his father left. And his family fell apart. Troubled by his father’s missteps, Cranston abandoned his acting aspirations and resolved to pursue a steadier career in law enforcement. Then, on a two-year cross-country motorcycle journey, Cranston re-discovered his talent for acting and found his mission and his calling. In this “must-read memoir” (The Philadelphia Inquirer), Cranston traces the many roles he inhabited throughout his remarkable life, both on and off screen. For the first time he shares the story of his early years as an actor on the soap opera 'Loving', his recurring spots on 'Seinfeld', and his time as bumbling father Hal on 'Malcolm in the Middle', to his tour-de-force, Tony-winning performance as Lyndon Baines Johnson in Broadway’s 'All the Way', to his most iconic role of all: 'Breaking Bad'’s Walter White." Wristbands for event access will be distributed with purchase of "A Life in Parts" beginning at 9am the day of the event. In the interest of time, Mr. Cranston will only be signing copies of his new book. No personalization, posed photos, or memorabilia will be allowed. For more information on this and future events at our Union Square store, contact this location online (Barnes & Noble) or by phone at (212) 253.0810. We hope to see you there!
