Nickerson United Methodist Church

The Nickerson United Methodist Church is a small-membership rural church serving the greater Nickerson Community. We have members that come in from Hutchinson, the Nickerson area and Sterling.

Nickerson UMC is a growing church that offers a wide variety of worship opportunities to its members and families. Beginning in the fall and continuing through the school calendar year, the church hosts a fried-chicken potluck on Wednesday nights. Families are encouraged to bring a dish, and enjoy fellowship time after the grade school and younger youth groups meet and before meetings, rehearsals, and jr/sr high school youths groups meet.

Speaking of our youth activities, the church offers youth education and fellowship opportunities through the school year. Boomwackers is an hour long Sunday School style youth meeting, educating and worshiping in a fun, vibrant and meaningful way. Boomwackers is open to any and every grade school age child in the Nickerson community.

The Junior and Senior High School youth groups also meet on Wednesday nights after dinner, but they also continue to meet during the summer months as well. Their activities are as varied as the kids themselves and are open to any one interested in forming a relationship with Christ. The meeting times vary during the summer, so contact the church office if you are interested.

NUMC is very proud of it's rich musical worship styles. The Chancel Choir, which meets and worships during the school year, praises through wonderful song that can truly touch the soul.

The NUMC Praise Band contributes to the Sunday service once a month and worships through instrumental and vocal stylings. The Praise Band boasts three vocalists, one electric bass, one clarinetist, one percussionist and is lead by our director who is also our pianist. The sound is varied, but mainly Gospel. The Praise Band plays on the second Sunday of the month, at 9:30am.

Our church is active in the community, and most widely known for it's attention to the youth. The church hosts a pre-school in the mornings during the school year, that is run in a joint partnership with the local school district, USD 309. Kid Krossing, Inc. also runs an After School program, that infuses the love of Christ with activities, homework time, fun time for children in our elementary school whose parents are at work after school. The church also hosts an ice cream social during the town summer festival, Klear Nearly.
