Contemporary Home Furnishings & Accessories has been our family business since 1974. We have one of the largest contemporary showrooms with 3 floors in our downtown Royal Oak location, and a clearance center in Southfield. We have in-stock merchandise, but also a huge selection of fabrics to special order. Much of our furniture is manufactured in the US, Canada, and Europe.

HISTORY
Bright Ideas was started by Jim and Beth Smith as a lighting store in Downtown Rochester in 1974. Furniture was slowly added over the years. The current location in Downtown Royal Oak was opened in 1985 when Royal Oak was nothing like it is today, but they saw potential for this area to grow into a destination.
The building had a major renovation in 2000 to change to the current look and provide a great place to showcase furniture and allow our customers to enjoy a walk through the store while visiting downtown Royal Oak.
We are an environmentally friendly company and have implemented many measures to reduce our carbon footprint. Between 2011-2013 we installed higher efficiently HVAC and more efficient CFL and LED lighting, resulting in a 40% reduction in electricity in our Royal Oak Showroom. Our Clearance Center was remodeled in 2011 to be a more industrial and loft feel with improved lighting for color, light levels of homes, and efficiency.
Bright Ideas is now a 2nd generation business, and we are happy to be the largest retail store in the central business district and to call Royal Oak our home.
