TAX DAY - Thank you to all my clients, I appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you next year. I enjoy striving to get you the largest refund and/or minimizing your tax burden. Jim

I have loaded my new 2016 tax software, e-filed test returns, am ready to go when you are. The IRS has announced that refunds for returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit and/or the Additional Child Tax Credit will be held until February 15 and are not expected to be available until the following week. The IRS has significantly overhauled the Form 8867 Due Diligence Checklist and it now applies to any return claiming the Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, Additional Child Tax Credit, or the American Opportunity Tax Credit. There are many additional questions and documentation is requested to be reviewed and copies stored. For small businesses, there is a new January 31 due date for filing Forms 1099-MISC when reporting nonemployee compensation payments in box 7. E-filing officially opens January 23, but I can file returns with the software company and they will be held in queue until the IRS begins accepting returns. The tax filing deadline is April 18, 2017 this year.

Last week I attended the first fall tax update class, even after 36 years of doing taxes I learn something new every seminar. This one was held at the Eagle Eye Golf & Conference Center at Hawk Hollow down in Bath, MI, just north of Lansing. Approximately 150 tax professionals from all over MI attended. I have several more tax update seminars scheduled to attend later this fall in preparation for the coming season.

It has been a pleasure serving you, 12 years of continuous growth! We appreciate your business and the confidence you have placed In us. Thank you! Looking forward to seeing you during the year or again next year.
