Established in 1966, The Spanish American Committee, for a better community, Corporation, is the oldest and largest community based organization in the state of Ohio offering bilingual programs and services. The Spanish American Committee for a better community, Corp is a response by the Hispanic/Latino community of Cleveland to take ownership of the key issues impacting our community and to provide leadership in addressing those issues.
Located at 4407 Lorain Avenue in Cleveland, OH the Spanish American Committee has been conveniently located in the Ward 14 area for over 42 years. The Spanish American Committee currently serves over 5500 clients a year of which 80% are of Hispanic/Latino decent. Other races include: 10% Black, 5% White, 5% Other
The Spanish American Committees offers services, and education within 5 major core Program areas:
Family Support Program;
Health Education Seminars, Help Me Grow Services, Housing Crises Services, SSI Evaluation Site, and contracted translation services.
Employment and Training Program;
Job Search Job Readiness Training, Resume creation, Internal Job fairs, and bilingual basic computer training.
Pre to Post Homeownership;
Financial Literacy workshops, First-Time Homebuyers Seminars, Mortgage Delinquency workshops; one-on-one financial and housing counseling, and foreclosure prevention counseling.
Early Childhood Enrichment Program:
Fully credentialized Bilingual Childcare facility with concentration on preschool education through after-school activities, Offering duel curriculum; Spanish and English, Early Learning Initiative, Breakthrough to Literacy, Early Reading First, and SMART in the City.
Educational training
Bilingual GED “RISE” Program (Youth 16-24), Bilingual GED Adult Education, ESL (English as a Second Language).
