In response to the current canine influenza outbreak, we are now carrying the updated influenza vaccine that has the new strain in it. If your pet has had influenza vaccines in the past, they may not be completely protected. Please call us to schedule an appointment to update your pet’s influenza vaccine. Once your pet has received the new vaccine, it will need to be boostered in 3-4 weeks. Signs to watch out for are; sneezing, coughing, discharge from the nose or eyes (usually yellow or green in color), lethargy, and loss of appetite. If your pet is showing these signs, they need to be seen by a veterinarian immediately.

As some of you may have heard, there has been a canine influenza outbreak in the southeastern portion of the United States. There have been 2 confirmed cases in Spring - both pets having been exposed to the Georgia outbreak. There is the potential for a more large-scale outbreak in our area, but preventative medicine is key to keeping this virus controlled. This strain of influenza is NOT contagious to humans. If your dog is not currently vaccinated for influenza, we highly recommend doing so. Contact us to schedule an appointment, or if you are unsure if your pet is already vaccinated, call to confirm with one of our receptionists. Stay healthy and happy!
