Penn-Mar Hapki DO Karate Academy

Welcome to PennMar Martial Arts Academy.
Our instructors provide a well-rounded course of instruction in the traditional martial art of Hapkido, with a focus on improving the overall being rather than teaching someone "how to fight." In truth we teach our students "how not to fight." Our course of study includes stretching exercises, a proven aid in long-term health maintenance; self-defense techniques, which require the student to move in directions that are, at first, strange to him/her, including kicking, punching, joint locks, pressure points, grappling, and more; and lastly, to make the student aware of his/her responsibility to others. Our training is for all ages as is evidenced by our enrollment, which includes children as young as age four, to adults who are well into their 60's, and everyone in between.

Women find our program an excellent art for self-defense and fitness. HapKiDo relies on knowledge and movement rather than strength to complete techniques. The size of the person performing the technique is irrelevant. A 220 lb. attacker is at the mercy of a 110 lb. trained practitioner. This quality makes HapKiDo ideal for women and children.
