Health officials with the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department want to remind people to be careful when handling live poultry due to the risk of Salmonella germs. Backyard chickens, turkey, duck, and geese can all carry Salmonella and transmit the germs on their feathers, beaks, and feet and in nature so be careful when coming into contact with these birds. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after handling them, especially children with chicks or ducklings. This year's Earth Day on April 22 will focus on climate literacy to empower global citizens with knowledge to inspire action for environmental protection.

BOIL WATER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR THE VILLAGE OF BEULAH A water main break on Spring Valley St. between Highland Dr. and Crystal Ave. has caused a complete loss of water in the Village of Beulah water system. Once restored, there is a concern of the possibility of bacteria in the water lines and, as a precaution, the citizens of Beulah are advised to boil water for consumption until they are notified that the water is safe to drink. The citizens of the Village are asked to boil water intended for consumption until notified by the village that the water is safe to drink.
