Founded in 2000 by civil rights activists, Center for Health Justice was born out of a realization that incarcerated people living with HIV were underserved by existing HIV/AIDS service groups, prisoner advocacy, and public health organizations. Working in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and other social justice organizations, CHJ has evolved into a trusted holistic health service provider in correctional facilities and a national thought leader on corrections issues, including the provision of condoms in locked settings.
