Our Members: WTFD is a combination department with part-time Paid on Shift Firefighters staffing the station on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The remainder of the time, our Paid per Call Firefighters provide coverage for emergency incidents by responding from home.
Paid on Shift members have minimum training of Ohio Firefighter Level I and Emergency Medical Technician. Paid per Call members have minimum of Ohio Volunteer Firefighter and EMT. Many of our members, both Shift and Call, have higher certifications including Firefighter Level II and Paramedic. Members participate in weekly training to keep their skills up to date and meet Ohio Continuing Education requirements.
Our Location: We are located in Lucas County, Ohio (just outside Toledo) at the Michigan / Ohio border. We protect a primarily residential area with a population of 3,500 people in both areas of Washington Township - Shoreland (including Creekside and Shoreland Heights) and Alexis Place (including Raintree Village) and the adjacent waters of the Ottawa River and Maumee Bay. We operate out of 1 station with a Class A engine, a combination Heavy Rescue Squad-Engine, an EMS Transport unit and 3 water/ice rescue vessels.
Our Services: Fire Prevention/Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, and Special Operations (Water and Ice Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Haz Mat Initial Response.)
