The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI) is a statewide, non-partisan, non-profit membership organization working so all Coloradans can get affordable, high-quality and equitable health care. CCHI represents 45+ nonprofit organizations—mobilizing well over 500,000 consumers—to shape effective health care policy.

Mission: CCHI advances the consumer perspective to improve health care for all Coloradans.

Vision: All Coloradans can access affordable, high-quality and equitable health care.

  • All people in Colorado deserve access to affordable, high-quality, equitable, health care.
  • The consumer should have an equal voice represented among other interests in health care policy.
  • Health care systems should be designed to operate transparently, provide high value and high quality experiences, and be consumer-centered.
  • Our members strengthen our voice and our ability to engage consumers in improving health care in Colorado.

Goals:

  • Increase the number of insured Coloradans, especially Coloradans with historically higher rates of uninsurance.
  • Improve access to and the value of health care and health insurance for Colorado consumers.
  • Increase transparency and accountability in the health care system.
  • Ensure consumer representation and direct consumer engagement in health care systems change.


Why we exist: In health care policy discussions, consumers and their experiences have often been overlooked or left out. CCHI has expertise with consumers in private market insurance, those with public health insurance and the uninsured. CCHI exists to ensure that policy decisions truly address the needs of all Colorado consumers. To accomplish this, we:

  • Engage with members, partners, stakeholders, and policymakers to improve the health care system.
  • Build consensus among consumer and patient advocacy groups, direct service organizations and other policy organizations to elevate a unified consumer voice.
  • Influence policy through legislation, rules, regulations and other strategies to improve private health insurance and access to quality, affordable care.
  • Represent consumer interests in state and national health insurance forums such as the Consumer Insurance Council and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
  • Act as a watchdog to serve as a counterweight to powerful health care systems and interests.
  • Directly support consumers in engaging in the policy process, sharing their health care stories and helping consumers find local health care resources.
  • Provide vital information to consumers on how to use health insurance and key policy changes impact their health care.​
