The plantation offers all types of hunting and fishing opportunities. They range from deer, turkey, wild boar, quail, chuckar, pheasant tower shoots, predator hunts, as well as bass, bream, speckled perch and channel catfish fishing trips. There are 5 fish ponds and two rivers to fish from. There are also some bowfishing opportunities in the ponds and on the rivers. The plantation has around 100 stands to hunt from when pursuing the big bucks on the Gopher. The stands are 4 ft wide by 6 ft long and have office chairs in them. They are great for a father-son or mother-daughter or several family members at one time. The Gopher encourages the whole family to enjoy the great outdoors and there is something for everyone. Many youngsters have taken their first animal with the very experienced guides that work and live on the plantation. They are constantly scouting to know exactly what the game is doing during that time period of the year. There is approximately 600 acres of planted food plots to hold and grow trophy bucks in the fall. For those interested there are sometimes opportunities to take hogs while deer hunting as well as other fur predators from the coyote, to the fox, and bobcats. If you are interested in hearing the thunderous gobble of the eastern wild turkey then there is no better place in the Southeast than Gopher Plantation. A hunter can expect to hear numerous turkeys during their hunt and have ample shooting opportunities. There has also been several multiple bearded birds taken on the plantation and one double spurred bird. You have a very good chance at taking an older more mature bird at 3 years and older with beards in excess of 12 inches every year and 1 1/2 inch hooks. If hunting and fishing is not your style come spend a few days with the Gopher Plantation crew and take a step back in time. You can take a tour of the cabins to see the equipment and farming tools used over 100 years ago. All the cabins were reconstructed from buildings and homesteads that were located in the surrounding area. There are 3 guest cabins and a game room with a total of 36 beds. The main lodge is 5600 square foot and has many animals in the main room that are good representatives of the game taken on the plantation. If the great hunting, friendly experienced guides, game rich adventure isn't enough to bring you back year after year then once you taste the Southern home-cooked meals then you will be hooked forever.
