UPDATE 9/23: So far the Red Cross has authorized $70 million in financial assistance to 175,000 Texas households severely affected by Hurricane Harvey and continues to process applications. This is a new program for the Red Cross, designed to put assistance in the hands of those who need it the most – and do it quickly while controlling for fraud or duplication. As with any new technology, there have been some glitches. We are working day and night to address them quickly and are continuing to provide assistance to those who need it. The Red Cross is currently processing registrations for pending applicants whose registrations were not completed when the system became overloaded. We have reached out to all those applicants with instructions on next steps. The focus of our Hurricane Harvey assistance program is on delivering funds to those most severely affected by Hurricane Harvey. We wish we could help everyone, but there are many who have been affected that may not be qualified for this program. They may qualify for other forms of Red Cross support, though, including sheltering, cleaning supplies, food, health and mental health support and spiritual care. Thank you. UPDATE 9/22: The American Red Cross relaunched its financial assistance program Thursday, September 21, and we were able to process and inform tens of thousands of applicants of their status. If you have not heard from us in the 24-hour window, we are still processing your application, and you do not need to reapply. We will contact everyone who has applied as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience. ORIGINAL POST 9/21: Today, we are restarting our program to deliver emergency financial assistance to those most affected by Hurricane Harvey. Learn more here:
