#WriterWednesdays - Here's a quote from #TACTGraves Playwright, Jeff Talbott: "The best part, and I mean the very best part, of writing a play is when everybody joins you in a rehearsal room and starts taking the thing for themselves. It's exciting and moving and scary and "Christmas morning" all wrapped up in one." Tis the time to secure your tickets for The Gravedigger's Lullaby:

#TACTTuesdays - Are you wondering what it's like to work on a production that's making it's World Premiere? Here is a quote from one of our Company Member's, Todd Lawson, who is giving us an inside scoop of the creative process and the challenges that can arise: "One of the challenges in Gravedigger’s are the constant changes in working on a new script. I love it and it’s one of the most exciting processes. There is nothing better than to be in the room while creating a new piece, but it also makes you have to let things go or learn new bits, quickly. My character has gone through some big changes since I first read the script. We got a new scene for our first read through and it has changed a couple times during the process so far. Forgetting some of the things that were part of the character in early incarnations and really investing in what is now the better version of the story. It’s fun and sometimes hard—ha. Being blessed with an amazing playwright and director help this process immensely. Jeff Talbot is always helpful, open and available. Jenn Thompson has an awesome eye and ear for telling just the right story and guiding us along the way. With a cast that will do whatever it takes to make this story fly, challenges are just apart of the fun." #TACTnyc #TACT #TACTGraves #NewWork

We continue to #GetTheDirt on THE GRAVEDIGGER'S LULLABY and the challenges that arise when revealing new theatre to the world (especially #OffBroadway). We spoke with #TACT Company Member Jeremy Beck (portraying Charles Timmens), he stated: "I'm playing a guy whose context in any given scene is very much wrapped up in where he is coming from and where he is headed. This context isn't always explained up front (or at all) so there is a bit of a tricky task to establish a literal and metaphorical journey without the advantage of dialogue.Thank God for designers. Little adjustments to costume, hair, lights, etc do the heavy lifting. Plus, a little mystery never hurts (he reassuringly mutters to himself). Jeff's play lives as much between the lines as on them."

#DiggingUpFacts - Gravediggers (Vespillones): "He whom many people avoid, but no one escapes." (Anonymous Dialogue of Hadrian and Epictetus 27) Did you know that in most cultures around the world Gravediggers or "Vespillones" were considered "unclean" and "untouchable" in the early 20th century? Specifically within the Indian, Feudal Japanese, Pagan, and Roman regions, they created lower-class communities designed to separate the working class from the "impure". In Feudal Japan the class alloted the name Burakumin due the severe social stigmas of kegare ("defilement") attached to them. "Until recently Diaulus was a doctor, now he's a vespillo; what the vespillo does now, the doctor used to do." (Epigram against an incompetent physician, Martial 1.47) #TACTnyc #TACTmainstage #TACTGDL #NewWork
