Design Practice

5
Foundation _ Having met in graduate school and collaborated on projects since 2008, Paul Norquist and Andrew Schmidt made the partnership official with the formation of the Design Practice in 2010. We had both worked for separate firms upon graduating from architecture school and, in our respective firms, focused on multi-family residential design, space planning and detailing. Our shared interest in progressive design and unique detailing has made for a natural fit where we can push each other to give our clients the best possible results.

Methodology _ As the name suggests, the Design Practice is at the intersect of design and practice. Our take is to fuse the role of designer and practitioner, that one cannot exist without the other. In this respect the “design” phase becomes continuous throughout the life of the project. We see each step of the project as on opportunity to create something unique, something timeless, something that will enhance the lives of the end user. We take a hands-on approach to our work and see our built work as our laboratory.

Philosophy _ We believe that good design plays an integral role in our daily lives. We live in a modern society, our designs and built work are intended to reflect the way we live.
