We were thrilled to be a part of this year's Rochester River Challenge at Genesee Waterways Center, through Cape Ability Outrigger Ohana. The "Arc Sharks" tore through the water, and had a blast racing with other outrigger canoes from Heritage Christian Services and TIES (Together Including Every Student). We were also honored to be part of this race alongside our Wounded Warriors and breast cancer survivors and supporters from Hope Chest. A totally inclusive community event - we can't wait to be a part of it next year!

In honor of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, we would like to acknowledge the Arc of Monroe's Community Support Professional, Katherine Cummings. "Katherine has been working in Comm Hab since March and has done a wonderful job forming relationships with the individuals she supports. Katherine has been working with Amy for about 6 months now and is extremely person-centered. Katherine does a great job at coming up with new and fun activities to do in the Rochester area free of cost to provide new and exciting experiences for the people she works with. Katherine has recognized Amy’s desire to be in the spotlight and be a star. Katherine went out of her way to enhance Amy’s talents of creating music and singing by putting her song to music and created a youtube video. Amy said that this was her dream come true and is grateful to Katherine for making this happen for her."

In honor of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, we would like to acknowledge the Arc of Monroe's DSP, Carla Ojubanire. "Carla is an exceptional Direct Support Professional. Carla is always reliable, and willing to help out in any way she can. She quite often rearranges her personal schedule to fill open shifts, when other staff call off. She is always available at a moment's notice, which demonstrates how much she cares about the people we support. Carla is a role model for all DSPs to follow. Carla's dedicated work ethic, and integrity are demonstrated by the quality care she provides the people we support; our residents' needs always come before her own. They are always well dressed, well groomed, and involved in meaningful activities, both inside the residence, and while integrated in the community. Carla recently took a resident to Woodcliff Hotel and Spa for two days. The resident said she had a great time, and always does, with Carla. Carla is often found teaching our residents how to cook and clean up after themselves. She promotes independence, and genuinely wants each resident to "reach for the stars" and become more than they think they can be! Incorporating all of these things into each and every day, demonstrates excellence in the field of Human Services/Direct Care. Thank you Carla!
