The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office was established in 1907 and has grown to a full service law enforcement agency headed by Sheriff Johnny Christian and Undersheriff Joey W. Tucker. Below is the various Divisions within the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
PATROL DIVISION
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division has the responsibility to protect the lives and property of the over 42,000 residents of Bryan County and all visitors within its 942 square mile jurisdiction. The Patrol Division actively works to prevent and detect criminal activity. Patrol is also responsible for serving protective orders and orders of the court. Patrol is also responsible for law enforcement services to all Army Corp of Engineer land surrounding Lake Texoma within Bryan County. The Patrol Division is headed by Chief Deputy Michael Graham.
K-9 UNITS
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Units provide support to all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as surrounding agencies, in the apprehension, detection and deterrence of criminal activity. These K-9 units are frequently requested by schools within Bryan County for drug detection. The K-9 Units are available to any school system within Bryan County at no cost. Deputies selected for this duty undergo extensive training prior to becoming certified with their canine partner. Our K-9 units have successfully seized numerous drugs that would have otherwise been sold to our community. The K-9 Units is headed by Chief Deputy Michael Graham.
CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DIVISION
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division is currently comprised of Investigators who investigate crimes against persons, such as aggravated assault, sexual assault, robbery, and property These Investigators carry a case load on investigations that have been assigned to them and also frequently work as part of a team on larger investigations. also includes the crime scene component, which supports the Patrol Division by processing crime scenes, collecting evidence and photographing. The also investigates illegal drug sales and clandestine laboratories used to manufacture Methamphetamine. These cases range from street level drug sales to large-scale organized crime. All Investigators attend the Oklahoma Criminal Investigator Academy or the Basic Narcotics Investigator Academy depending on their primary role. Our Investigators attend the DEA Academy located in Quantico, Virginia where they are trained and certified in clandestine laboratory investigations. Most Investigators will return back to the Academy to attend the advanced Clandestine Laboratory Tactical School. Investigators with the have also trained with the Evidence Response Team, Marshals Office, and the Department of Homeland Security. is headed by Chief Investigator Jonathan Hammond
SPECIAL OPERATIONS
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office Regional Special Operations Team was formed in early 2003 to handle high risk situations that may arise in Bryan County. Special Operations members are constantly training to keep their skills at a higher than average level. Members of the Regional Special Operations Team come from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Durant Police Department and Choctaw Nation Tribal Police. Members are trained in skills ranging from hostage rescue, barricaded persons, backcountry tactical tracking, and tactical helicopter repelling “This is only some of the training”. Our Special Operations Team has assisted several neighboring agencies with high risk events. Special Operations is headed by the Undersheriff and Durant Police Captain.
AIR SUPPORT UNIT
The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit is available to assist not only the deputies of the Sheriff’s office but all neighboring local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Air Support Unit maintains a Bell helicopter “known as Air One” that was obtained by the Sheriff’s Office from the military surplus program. Air One missions typically consist of assisting ground units, drug eradication, searches for missing persons, fugitive manhunts, aerial photography of crime scenes and aerial surveillance. Air One is also equipped with a mounted spotlight. Night vision and thermal imaging cameras are also onboard for night operations. The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office is currently the only law enforcement agency in the region with Air Support capabilities.
