Originally built in 1882 and recently renovated and reopened as of 1998, The Newberry Opera House is one of North America's premier historical theaters and performing arts venues. Since the renovation, Newberry Opera House has played host to a wide variety of events ranging from local and regional acts all the way to national touring companies. Its stage has been graced by many artists and entertainers who history now considers legendary. In 2008, the Newberry Opera House raised the bar of excellence once again by being honored with the prestigious "2008-2009 Outstanding Historic Theatre Award" by the League of Historic American Theatres. The future looks bright, as the Newberry Opera House continues to bring culture, arts, and music to the forethought of public consciousness.
