In 1949 a small group of parents with the desire to provide a better quality of life for their children with special needs began the Parents Cerebral Palsy Unit in Akron.
The agency merged with many other organizations in the community over the years and was known by a variety of names until becoming United Disability Services in 1993, a name that continues to reflect the agency’s present diversity and leaves the door wide open to create an even greater choice of services and supports for individuals with disabilities to be active participants in their communities.
Today, United Disability Services is the lasting legacy of those founders who led the way 70 years ago. Their concern and commitment to this community has provided UDS with the roadmap to fulfill our mission of enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and their caregivers by providing the highest quality, client-focused programs and services.
