Great Ciao has been providing chefs and specialty retailers in Minnesota and around the country with artisan produced cheese and other hard to find ingredients since 1995. Our company is small, focused, and well-suited to bringing together the work of great producers, discerning chefs, and adventurous consumers.
It round the turn of the century, on some evening or other and we were haunched over the table wondering why a taleggio has to taste like a silo full of dirty socks. After all, we might hale from the pale of civilization, but we'd traveled. Cheese in Italy. Truffles and foie gras from the Perigord. You know, back then you couldn't find that kind of stuff around these parts. And we were hungry. So we got the folks on the far side of the pond to pack some chow on an airplane. Our dinner got here posthaste. Fresh. That was an inspirational moment.
Nowadays we spend most of our time trying this or that or ferreting out something we haven't tasted before. We run those airlines ragged. If we are lucky, every now and again, we find the authentic item. That's one we keep. Some people who haven't enjoyed living as much as we have call that kind of food "haute cuisine." When they say it, it sounds like they're pinching their nose. To us, it's just grub - tasty grub. We're happy to help you partake.
