The Charity for Change School “Giver” Program reinforces 19 character traits designated by the school district and state, such as cooperation, kindness, respect, responsibility, and tolerance. The character development and charity themes are throughout the curriculum, which also incorporates the concept of volunteering. Throughout the year, students donate change or hold mini-fundraisers to raise money for their charities. Students also earn money from the Charity for Change community partners by playing the “Counting for Charity” math game. During five annual sessions, they learn about 72 different charities. Each classroom works together to decide on a charity to support, and then sets a goal to raise for that session’s organization.
