More than 120 years ago, the Olson family began a tradition of quality funeral care, serving the families of Northern Illinois. This tradition was forged in respect, diginity, and compassion for those we serve.

In February of 1888, Nels Olson first began working as a full time funeral director. Of his four sons, only Fred C. Olson Sr. remained in the funeral establishment. In 1929, Fred C. Olson Sr. built a facility at 1001 Second Avenue in Rockford. This facility is now called the Fred C. Olson Chapel. In 1935, Fred C. Olson Jr. joined the business. Fred C. Olson Sr. remained active in the business until the early 1970's while his son remained active until 1987. In 1968 Bruce Olson joined the business followed by his son Scott in 2001, making it the only five generational funeral home in the area. In 1994, the Olson's opened a second facility to serve the familes or Rockford's northwest side.

In October of 2008, the Olson and Quiram families completed a merger of their funeral homes. The Quiram family had been serving Dekalb County since 1966 focusing on the same quality of care that the Olson's focus on. This merger made Olson Funeral & Cremation Services one of the largest family owned funeral service providers in the area.
