Lee County Tax Collectors Social Media Public Comment Policy

Comments will not be edited by the Tax Collector; however, a post may be deleted and users may be prohibited from posting future comments if the following guidelines are not adhered to:

■ Be respectful. Our Facebook page is an open forum for our customers to ask questions about the services we provide and the information we share. Do not post images or language containing any obscene, profane, violent, threatening, hateful, harassing, offensive or sexual content.
■ Protect yourself and avoid posting any personal or sensitive information such as phone number, driver's license or address. All posts are viewable by the public.
■ Please do not make any personal attacks. No defamation or accusations towards the office or an employee will be allowed. If a person believes there is a legitimate complaint against the office or employee, please contact 239-533-6060 to be directed to the appropriate department director.
■ Solicitation, advertising or endorsements of any kind will not be permitted. We also do not allow attempts to defame or defraud any institution or organization.
■ Please keep your content original. Copyrighted or trademarked materials must be owned by the user.

Under Florida law, all content on any Tax Collector social media site is subject to the public records law, Chapter 119, Florida Statutes. Florida has a very broad public records law. Most written communications to or from Lee County Tax Collector employees and officials regarding tax collector business is considered public record available to the public and media upon request. Any communication made through social meida sites may be subject to public disclosure.
