In the mid-90's, an eclectic group of Northwest Denver visionaries, including the Sisters of Loretto, several Jesuits associated with Regis University, a diocesan priest, and some concerned neighbors, banded together, often meeting in a church basement, to discuss what was lacking in the educational offerings of Northwest Denver. In 1999, this group's work culminated in the founding of Escuela de Guadalupe, a school tailored around the community it was to serve. The school was originally located at 34th and Pecos in what is now known as the Highlands.
The school originally opened as a K-5 neighborhood school intent on serving some of Denver's poorest families, but now draws its students from 36 different Metro Area zip codes. Though the school has grown in size and scope (by 2018, EdG will serve pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade) since its early years, and in June 2015 moved to its current Villa Park location, an area with few quality education offerings. Escuela remains true to its mission to provide the highest quality, Catholic, dual-language education available, and to make this education financially-accessible to all its families. Prior to enrollment, Escuela families are pre-screened and the result is a group of highly engaged and vested parents who understand and appreciate the value of Escuela's high quality education.
