Beware and do research people!
Any potential renters out there, you need to read this. There is a scam going around on Craigslist, targeting potential renters. The scammer is advertising a home for rent at a great price, but the "owners" are out of town. They often give an actual address, and encourage you to look through the windows, but you are not able to go in. All they ask is that you send them money and they will send you a key. There is often a lot more correspondence back and forth to make it look legit. We realize that it is hard to get a rental property right now and obviously the scammers know that too. They are relying on desperate people who want to jump on a good deal. So do not engage in any transaction with someone without meeting them in person. Also make sure, you are able to confirm ownership, do a walk through of the rental, etc. The scammers have access to property records and pose as the actual owners, so they can be convincing. Please do your research. Thanks for reading.
