The Rev. Michael Ramsdail'06 was extraordinary as our keynote speaker at Beloit College's 14th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Convocation, kicking off the first day of spring semester. Rev. Ramsdail received his B.A. in religious studies and communications at Beloit College and was a facilitator in creating the college’s Spiritual Life Program. He currently serves as the senior pastor of Lighthouse Fellowship Church in Beloit, diocesan overseer for the Great Lakes Region of Bridging the Gap International Fellowship of Churches, and the president of the Beloit Community Ministers Fellowship. Ramsdail has also served as president of the City of Beloit Board of Education, served on the board of directors for Beloit Regional Hospice, and as a chaplain for the Beloit Police Department. He is currently a member of the Beloit Police Department’s pastoral advisory committee and a board member of the Beloit College Alumni Association. Ramsdail is a lifelong Beloiter who strives to bring the community together by being of service wherever he is needed. How Beloitish is that? #Beloiter #BeloitCollege #TurtlesAllTheWayDown

Beloit College shared Beloit College Library & Archives's post.
The library shared this bit of history about Rev. Michael Ramsdail'06, this year's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation speaker. The event takes place Monday at 4:15 in Eaton Chapel.
A quick look back at the NC3 conference as we prepare to welcome Rev. Michael Ramsdail'06 as keynote speaker for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation on Monday. Held over two days in March, 2007, the New Conscience/New Campus/New Community Conference was “a college and community initiative…grounded in helping participants develop a deeper understanding of diversity/racism/tolerance issues facing students by examining what the past can teach us about the present and empowering us all to take positive action.” The events included a panel discussion moderated by Michael Ramsdail ’06, which included Freedom Rider, Jim Zwerg ’62. Zwerg’s friend, Civil Rights Leader and Congressman, John Lewis, provided the conference’s keynote address, entitled “Get in the Way.” The following photographs were taken at the conference, and are held in College Archives. The first features Michael Ramsdail at the podium; the second is a group photo of Jim Zwerg, Michael Ramsdail, and John Lewis; and the third shows panelists Jim Zwerg, Bob Carter, and Michael Ramsdail. We hope you can join us at Eaton Chapel at 4:15 on Monday to hear Michael's address.
