We are a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregation with a history reaching back to a founding date of April 24, 1884. As each generation of members have passed through the doors, the ministry has moved. The building was downtown at the turn of the century, but changed from its Fourth St. address to the current Mt. Vernon Road location following the fire of 1946. The life of the church has reflected Newarkâs landscape over the years. The edge of the city has now become close to its center. We continue to have several families in our membership whose forefather/mothers founded the congregation. Across generations, they have shared the faith with their children and the witness has grown.
We have welcomed new families across the years. The spirit has expanded and the love has grown. We have shared in many lives as weddings/ baptisms/ graduations/ funerals appeared on their calendars and in their memories. The Christian life is a pilgrimage and we are on the journey together. There is place for you to find a home, friends on the journey of life and respite from the rush of daily living.
