18 years in business and this is the first time I've been greeted by a gaggle of geese when I arrived at work.

I preach this to my customers all the time. The logo you bring me might look great on your website, but it just won't work when you want to embroider it on your shirt. One of the first questions I ask when taking on a design project is, "How will it be used?" 3 REASONS PRINT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE DESIGN PROCESS by Paula Brewers When you’re a designer first and foremost, you might be tempted to think primarily in pixels. Your first concerns are likely layout, color, font choice and bringing your client’s vision to life. However, if you aren’t also considering the particulars of the final printed product then you might be missing out on a crucial aspect of the design process. The particulars of the final printed product—from stock choice to texture and even creative surface options—impact the way your design is viewed as much as screen resolution can when it is viewed digitally. Here are three reasons why taking print into account should be an essential part of your design process. 1. Quality Your design means a lot to you. You’ve put time and energy into making a quality product, and carrying that through to the print stage means that you can ensure your design is displayed exactly as you want it to be displayed. You can ensure that the colors are vibrant, the lines are clean, and the layout is exactly as you envisioned it. This will ensure your customer’s happiness and ensure that your design always looks its best. 2.Design When you control how your design looks through the whole printing process, you can add unique touches that you couldn’t otherwise add to a digital image: embossed sections that add texture, foil stamping that adds shine, or laser cut details that provide your design with physical depth. You can also choose the stock options that will best display your design, from classic uncoated stocks to sleek coated stocks and specialty options like shimmering pearlized stock. These stock choices can give your design a very specific look, and the ability to suggest the best stock option for the job gives you greater control over the look of your design. 3. Creativity Working with print gives your designs a whole new creative dimension. How? You have a variety of new surfaces to design for. Buttons and bags, throw blankets and thermos mugs, you can really get creative with the way that your design looks on each of these print pieces. Putting your design on unique stocks or promotional products can even add a pop of color to highlight your design; for example, the colored core of a color core stock or the colored inside of a Digital 11 oz. Accent Mug can be chosen to reflect your customer’s brand colors.
