Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu

Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu - Colorado was founded in 1993 and was incorporated and granted its non-profit status in 1999. As a non-profit association providing traditional martial training, we are unique and 100% volunteer-based. We purposefully chose such a structure as we felt it was the best way to maintain the true heritage and traditions of our martial system. Our Grandmaster, Tai Shī Fù Tonny Kho (太師父許敬唐), taught us to not make Kung Fu a “for-profit business”, as doing so typically requires compromising the values, integrity, and authenticity of the martial content and culture. We have a long legacy of very strong principles and values, and actively carry those forward, passing them on to another generation.

Our content is both broad and deep. Our Grandmaster was fortunate to have been taught a form of Southern Shaolin by his Grandfather and Northern Shaolin by his Grandfather’s close friend. The combination of the two is unique, results in an extensive curriculum, and enables us to help students emphasize those techniques which optimally “fit” the individual – essentially “personalizing” the student’s program.

At SHMKF, we also believe that in order to develop a true understanding of the martial practice, a student needs to have at least a basic understanding of the culture from which that practice has grown. Toward that end, we established our center, the Academy of Chinese Martial and Cultural Arts. We host a variety of lectures and workshops, such as an "Introduction to the I-Ching", the great majority of which are offered to our students for no fees. In addition, the Kung Fu class content often includes lectures concerning history, culture and philosophy. Finally, we offer Lion and Dragon performance training - important components of Chinese culture. We feel a strong sense of responsibility to provide a complete educational experience as our students develop their skills, knowledge, and character.
