5:15 p.m. update: We made progress today restoring customers in affected Wisconsin areas. In some communities, work remains to be done and will continue into Saturday. The current line of storms poses more problems, especially in flooded areas. Please avoid downed lines! Assume they are energized. Report/check on outages at alliantenergy.com/outage Crews will be working through the day to restore the close to 1,200 customers still out in Wisconsin after Wednesday's devastating storms. These photos show some of the tree and line damage that took place. Verona, Prairie du Chien, Mineral Point and Richland Center areas took some of the worst of it. We have brought in more than 100 extra people, some from out of state, to work the outages, which orginally numbered over 25,000. We appreciate your patience in these difficult circumstances. This pole and line damage from Mason City, Iowa, shows the destructive power of last night's storms. Mason City and Decorah still have outages from such damage. In Wisconsin, Verona, Prairie du Chien,Spring Green, Barneveld, Belleville and Mineral Point areas have many trees, poles and lines down. Due to the heat, we are activating our appliance cycling program in the southern third of Iowa today from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. This includes the metro areas of Burlington, Keokuk, Ft Madison, Ottumwa and Centerville. This will affect around 10, 000 customers participating in the appliance cycling program. This is the first cycling event of the year in Iowa. Participating customers receive an $8 monthly bill credit in the summer for allowing us to cycle their main a/c unit. 10 p.m. Thursday update: About 2,400 Wisconsin customers are out in the wake of last night's storms. Tree, line and pole damage are the major issues. Restoration in hard-hit areas in Wisconsin -- in Dane, Grant, Iowa, Richland and Sauk counties -- will extend into Friday. In Iowa, 1,300 are out in Dallas County. Crews will work as is safely possible. Restoration times will be updated when available at alliantenergy.com/outage 4:30 p.m. Thursday update: Crews have been working steadily through the day. Some of the harder hit areas in Wisconsin -- in and around Verona, Prairie du Chien, Mineral Point, Dodgeville, Richland Center and Baraboo -- likely will be out until sometime Friday. More than 5,000 are still out in Wisconsin. Iowa restorations are continuing; fewer that 350 customers are out in the state. Restoration times will be updated as possible at alliantenergy.com/outage Noon Thursday update: Outages are now down to about 4,200. The majority are in the Verona, Prairie du Chien, Barneveld, Belleville and Mineral Point areas in Wisconsin. In Iowa, Decorah and Mason City still have outages from severe tree, line and pole damage. We have called in additional crews, and we will work through the day on restoration. Avoid downed lines! Trees, lines and poles are down in hardest-hit areas. In Wisconsin, about 6,000 remain out. Prairie du Chien, Mineral Point, Verona, Monroe and areas of Janesville have serious damage, Crews will work through the day. In Iowa, the Decorah area and Mason City have most remaining outages. We are at about 2,100 out for the state. Avoid downed lines! Always assume they are live. We have around 6,500 still without electricity. The damage is widespread and mostly due to trees on lines. Our crews will be working through the night and into the morning. The Mason City and Decorah areas were hit pretty hard. Wisconsin customers in Mineral Point, Prairie du Chien, Baraboo and Janesville are seeing trees on lines and broken power poles.The Verona area is also hard hit as the storms continue will be keeping an eye on that area. The damage is so severe in Wisconsin that work will continue into Thursday in some areas. 9:50 update: Close to 28,000 customers out, about 20,000 in Wisconsin. Iowa outages about 8,500.
