Asbury Lanes shared Chris Gethard's post.
One of the best nights we had at the Lanes was the day that Chris Gethard Beautiful/Anonymous Podcast & Stand Up did his finale with us...It was super special in so many ways...We met new friends, saw old friends and watched a good time be had by all...Its always bittersweet to know that this wont be happening at our beloved Lanes, but super happy and excited this is gonna happen in Asbury Park! Asbury Lanes loves Chris Gethard...
One of the things I'm most excited about with the upcoming Beautiful/Anonymous tour is that we end the whole thing on 6/13 in perhaps my favorite place, Asbury Park, NJ. We'll be doing two shows - early one is a live podcast taping of Beautiful/Anonymous, second show is a big stand up blowout. Both are gonna be fun. You can get a combo ticket to both that works cheaper than if you buy em separately. This is all going down at House of Independents, a venue that's been super kind to me. Asbury Park holds a very special place in my heart. Jersey is my home, and I think Asbury Park is in a way the most New Jersey that New Jersey gets. It had some tough times, but it's bouncing back. The boardwalk is nice now, but you can still look around at some abandoned buildings if you feel like it. It's cool but its gritty and it doesn't apologize for what it is. It's also the only place I can imagine that would be able to pull off a pinball museum right on the beach. I started going to shows at The Stone Pony in high school. Foolishly wore a brand new pair of sneakers to see Bad Religion there and they were so stomped on that they were garbage by the end of the show. The last time I got into a fistfight was at the Stone Pony, at a Weezer show. Good times. When I was working at Weird NJ we held our Halloween party at the Pony a couple times. One year I was selling merch for the first hour or so, and my friend that I brought got waaaaay too drunk. We were college kids and she went college hard, before I could even really get into the swing of the party. She was dressed as a pumpkin and I had to carry her from the Pony all the way down the main drag to our hotel. Keep in mind, this was way before Asbury Park had its renaissance. The only thing open on the boardwalk was Howard Johnson's back then, everything else was abandoned. It was scary, but it was cool. That night, it wasn't cool. People were yelling at me from underneath the boardwalk and out of the abandoned buildings as I carried a semi-comatose pixie-ish little college girl dressed as a pumpkin down the main drag. This ranks as one of the top ten scariest experiences of my life. We ended season one of The Chris Gethard Show on Fusion at Asbury Park. Mostly because I just wanted fans of the show to see it. We put on a show at Asbury Lanes, one of my all time favorite places. And the whole thing ended with a few hundred kids surrounding a giant bonfire on the beach before sprinting into the ocean together. Most towns, setting a big fire and night swimming are things that cause concern. In Asbury Park, we got our permits and they told us to be careful and have fun. It's a truly special place and I can't wait to return. I hope you'll join me!

We have had the pleasure of becoming friends with these two amazing performers throughout the years at our beloved Asbury Lanes. We are always inspired and enamored by them as people and performers. We were so excited to see this beautiful and poetic film of Brian Newman and the lovely Angie Pontani.
