Debbie's Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to raising awareness about stomach cancer, advancing funding for research, and providing education and support internationally to patients, families, and caregivers. We seek as our ultimate goal to make the cure for stomach cancer a reality.
In April 2008, Debbie Zelman, a forty year old attorney, wife and mother of three young children, was diagnosed with stage IV advanced, incurable stomach cancer. She immediately began to pursue treatment for her illness but she quickly learned that there are relatively few treatment options available for this disease. Debbie was told her chances of being alive in five years were less than 5 percent.
Stomach cancer is the second most prevalent cancer killer worldwide and one of the top cancer killers in the United States. However, per cancer death, stomach cancer receives the least amount of federal funding.
