Tunk's Cypress Inn

July 5, 1977 construction began on a huge building near the water of Lake Kincaid. The builder, E.A. "Tunk" Andries, Jr., must have felt a little like Noah because there were a few snickers around here & there. To make a long story short, after 9 months of sweat, frustration & plain, honest hard work, Tunk's Cypress Inn opened on the clear cool night of March 21, 1978. A lot of folks came; mistakes were made, but we all held on & we're still here.

The goal of our restaurant, as with all others, is customer satisfaction while making a profit. To attain this goal we've kept in mind what its founder, "Mr. Tunk", said to a friend who asked, "What kind of restaurant will this be?" His reply: "This will be a place where any man can feel comfortable & welcome with his family; to relax & enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price; not too fancy, but with none of the good things left out. Thank you for dining with us. Your hosts, Jimbo and Sandy Thiels.

Don't know if you guys ever saw this. Our Special Forces team was training at Fort Polk prior to our 2003 deployment to Afghanistan. Our team commander got engaged and had a party at a hotel in Alexandria. We had our last stateside meal at Tunk's before we flew out the next day. You guys treated us great! We grabbed a few of your bumper stickers and put them on our gun trucks when we got to Afghanistan. Not sure if you got any business from the advertisement though! Ha! We lost some guys from that team and that night and meal is a good memory for me. I hope to bring my wife down sometime soon. Thanks.
