In “Alateen: Hope for Children of Alcoholics" (B-3), an anonymous Alateen member shares: “I first noticed our way of living was different from other people's when I was old enough to visit friends' homes. Their parents didn't have a glass of booze glued to their hands; everybody didn't yell at everybody else all the time!... My mother got tired with the way she was living and started going to AA and Al-Anon. She found out that an Alateen group met near us every week, so I went to that… I learned that my parents were sick and that they had a disease I couldn't control. I couldn't do anything about their lives, but I could do something about my own." Find support in a local Alateen meeting. “My mom and I confronted my dad about his drinking. I told him that it was tearing our #family apart. My dad promised me that he'd stop drinking for the sake of his family and his health. A week went by without him drinking. I started to get my hopes up, only to see him go back to drinking heavily two weeks later… I was devastated and felt more alone than ever. I couldn't keep all these emotions bottled up anymore. I needed to let them out. I decided to talk to one of my best friends about it. She had an alcoholic father and understood everything that I told her. She told me about Alateen." “It isn't my fault my dad drinks," “The Forum" December 2016 Do you have a parent who drinks too much? Alateen can help. In the current issue of Al-Anon's "The Forum" magazine, a member shares: “My husband had been sober for about seven months when the dam opened up. I was living the ‘keep him sober' part and felt like I was walking on eggshells, in constant danger of him losing sobriety. I had gone with him to an anniversary meeting and heard an Al-Anon speaker. I don't know what she said, but somewhere in the pain that followed the dam bursting, I heard a voice within say, ‘Try Al-Anon.' I did." “What kept me coming back?" “The Forum" March 2017 If you're ready to try an Al-Anon meeting, find one in the U.S., Canada, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico at goo.gl/ojyYGe.
