Carolina Youth Development Center is a direct descendant of the Charleston Orphan House, America’s first publicly-funded orphanage.
For over 230 years, CYDC has been committed to protecting and healing child victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment. We offer quality, comprehensive care, and programs that deliver a continuum of prevention, assessment, intervention and treatment services. CYDC provides prevention services that help at-risk families stay together through our Community-Based Prevention programs.
Our Mission: To empower and equip our community’s most vulnerable children by providing a safe environment, educational support and career readiness, in collaboration with families and community partners.
