ECoG (Electrocochleography)


ECochG is a variant of brainstem audio evoked response (ABR where the recording electrode is placed as close as practical to the cochlea.

It is intended to diagnose Meniere's disease, and particular, hydrops (swelling of the inner ear). ECochG may also be abnormal in perilymph fistula and in sudden hearing loss (Filipo, 1997). The cochlear microphonic of ECochG may be normal in auditory neuropathy (Santarelli and Arslan 2002) as well as other disorders in which the cochlea is preserved but the auditory nerve is damaged (Yokoyama, Nishida et al. 1999). ECochG's have also been used to as a indicator of the temporary threshold shift that may follow noise injury (Nam et al, 2004).

VNG - Balance Evaluations


Videonystagmography evaluates the function of the vestibular portion of the inner ear for patients who are experiencing symptoms of vertigo, unsteadiness, dizziness, and other balance disorders. Hearing evaluation tests are frequently combined with vestibular studies for the identification of inner ear disorders.


OAEs


Otoacoustic emission testing allows the audiologist to understand how the outer hair cells of your inner ear are working.


Hearing Aid Dispensing & Fitting


At the hearing aid fitting, you will receive the hearing aids you selected. They are programmed based on a prescription that is specific to each person’s hearing loss. The hearing professional may make adjustments after you try the hearing aids to make sure the settings and fit are ideal for you.


In Office Services


We encourage ongoing cleaning and maintenance after your hearing aid purchase to ensure you receive optimum performance and benefit from your hearing aid(s). We encourage all our patients to come in for regular hearing aid check-ups and cleaning.

Repairs, Maintenance, Cleanings, and Warranties come with all brands of hearing aids. We offer in-office repairs when possible on most makes/models.


Battery Sales


We keep a supply of batteries for you to purchase in our office. Stop in routinely for fresh batteries. Make sure to check the batteries in your hearing devices often and make sure there is no dirt, wax or debris interfering with the batteries performance. Batteries that are properly charged will make a noise (a squeal) when cupped in your hand or after it has been inserted in your ear, when you cup your hand over the hearing aid it will also make a noise.

Assistive Devices


When hearing aids are not enough or not appropriate we offer devices for the TV, telephone, FM classroom amplification, body aids, and sound alert devices.

Custom hearing protection for people who work or play in loud noise or music, industrial hearing protection. Custom earmolds for musicians, hunters, swim molds, iPOD, hands free cell phones and in-the-ear monitor molds.


Auditory Brainstem Response


Unlike a hearing evaluation, which evaluates how well you hear sound, an auditory brainstem response test (ABR) evaluates how well the sounds travel along the auditory pathways to a particular part of the brain called the brainstem.

An ABR may be recommended for a variety of reasons. It may be used to estimate the sensitivity of the ear to sound, such as in the testing of newborns or in a child or adult who is unable to accurately complete a hearing evaluation. For adults, the most common reason an ABR is recommended is to help eliminate the possibility of a disorder along the hearing nerve or in the brain itself.

To complete the ABR test, electrodes are pasted and taped to the scalp and earlobes and soft foam tips are inserted into the ear canals. Clicking sounds then are delivered through the ear tips at a comfortable-to-fairly-loud level. These sounds cause nerve responses that are picked up by the electrodes and passed on to sophisticated equipment to record these responses. The audiologist then measures the responses to determine if they are normal or abnormal.
